Today's scripture comes to us from the Book of Psalms...
"Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don't worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes." (Psalm 37:7 NLT) I don't know about you,,,, but I will be the first to admit that I often don't do that "patience" part too well! You see, I am often convinced that, not only do I know what God must do, I know when God must do it! Sometimes, I realize that I am treating God like a puppet on a string... not only do I want to control God's actions.... I want to control the timetable under which I expect God to act. Do you ever have these same feelings? But then I read a scripture like the one above and realize the folly of my thinking. I do not control God's actions or God's timetable. And, quite honestly, I think God is insulted that I would think God is incapable of acting in God's time! So... if I was to expound on the scripture from Psalm 37:7, I would do it this way: "You can look to Me for help because I am God your Savior. I will hear you. I may not answer as soon as you'd like, or in the way that you'd like, but I always answer your prayers in the way that's best for you." And when God says that to me... I need to listen and always remember that God loves me so much that God has what's best for me in mind! +++ We gather for worship in our beautiful sanctuary on Sunday at 9:00am. This week I am using 1 Timothy 1: 12-17 and my message is entitled, "It Doesn't Matter Who You Used to Be". In this day when so many feel such guilt about the past they've lived, we are reminded that God doesn't worry about any of that. God is most concerned with who we are right now. Had a bad past, not lived up to God's hope for you, or made some very painful and costly mistakes? God looks past our past and sees our hearts and the future we have ahead of us. We will be "live-streaming" on the church's Facebook page at 9:00am and then "uploading" the completed worship to our YouTube channel. However you can, join us for worship on Sunday morning! We'll save you a good seat and welcome you with open arms! +++ Don't forget to stop and help us fill our Outhouse project for the Food Pantry. We have published the list of needed items but toilet paper is at the top of the list since it cannot be purchased using SNAP benefits. Can you help us reach our 2025 goal of 1,484 items? Thanks for your ongoing support of the mission work we do here at Immanuel! +++ Speaking of missions, our Mission Trip back to Vermont will take place on August 3-8. We need some more folks to join the team so speak to Mike B. for more information. Click here to see pictures of our trip in May. +++ Two dates to save on your August calendar....
Make this day a great day and don't let your worries about yesterday inhibit your ministry today! Pastor Jack Comments are closed.
