Immanuel UMC Bed Build

On September 14, the Immanuel UMC parking lot transformed into a hive of energy and purpose as volunteers came together with one mission: to give children the comfort and security of their own beds. The goal was 40, but with hearts full of determination and hands hard at work, 62 beds were built! In partnership with the Syracuse Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), Immanuel UMC and community volunteers ensured that even more children across Central New York can now sleep soundly.

We Built 62 Beds and Made 7 Blankets for Sleep in Heavenly Peace

9/18/2024

On a sunny Saturday, September 14, 2024, Immanuel UMC hosted a bed build for Sleep in Heavenly Peace. We started out to build 40 beds but were able to complete 62 beds! That means that 62 children in Onondaga County will no longer have to sleep on the floor! Our younger volunteers made 7 no sew blankets to go with the beds.
Many thanks to all of the persons who supported this endeavor!

15th Annual Miniature Golf Tournament a Success!

8/23/2024

August 11th was the perfect sunny day for the 15th Annual Miniature Golf Tournament to support Disaster Recovery Missions. We were blessed with 17 hole sponsors and 71 participants. After a shot gun start at 9am, participants returned to the church for a delicious brunch and prizes. A great time was had by all and we were able to raise $2,383.12! Thank you to all who participated!

Build 40 Beds for Local Children

On September 14th, the Immanuel UMC parking lot will be transformed into a bustling workshop as we come together to build 40 beds for children in our community who do not have their own.

Volunteer Registration

Registration for this year's event must be done online. There are two sessions available:
  • 9:30 am -11:00 am
  • 11:30 am -1:00 pm
Each session can accommodate up to 35 people, but volunteers will be accepted beyond that number and will be placed on a waitlist. You'll receive a confirmation email after registering.

To receive the registration links, email Shelley Dawson Smith.

There are volunteer roles suitable for those who prefer seated tasks. Please let Shelley know if you require a seated position, and she will assign you accordingly.

Food and Drink

Lunch prepared by Sam Paventi will be served at the end of each session. Water and Gatorade will be provided throughout both sessions.

Children Welcome

Children are welcome, but one-on-on adult supervision is required at all times. While there are limited volunteer opportunities for children, Lorlie Wood will be leading a blanket-making project for Sleep in Heavenly Peace. If your child is interested in participating, please let Lorlie  know.

Other Ways to Help

If you'd just like to come and support the event, your presence would be wonderful and greatly appreciated. No registration is required.

You can also contribute by purchasing twin-sized sheets, comforters, or pillows, or by making a monetary donation.

For questions or more information, contact Shelley by email or 315-727-0671.

We're looking forward to a successful build day! Hope to see you on 9/14!

Please note: We'll have tents on hand in case of inclement weather.

Mission Trip to Hardwick, VT - September 16 - 20, 2024

7/8/2024

We are planning on supporting a team of skilled, semi-skilled and those wishing to become skilled to work on home rebuilding projects. This session will run 1 week of work with daily travel or overnight available all days. We welcome other Church Congregations as well as Individuals interested in joining our team.

We will not know the type of project until closer to our departure. Most likely our assignment will be in a reconstruction project or following another team in a quest of putting a home(s) back together.

The team is made up of General Contractors, very skilled home owners and those who have never raised a hammer before. Every person will be paired up with someone who knows about the assigned task. No one will be asked to do anything they do not want to do nor is unsafe.

The work week is September 16th  to the 20th, 2024.

There will be a meeting at Immanuel UMC on August 13th at 7PM (for those close enough to be there). For information or questions please call or email Mike Block (Zoom info will be shared upon request).

It is important to submit all required forms by the posted date.  Any questions regarding this trip please contact the persons named below. Submit forms before August 12th .

Helpful requirements for a successful trip not only depend on the physical on-site workers but the support team to send them there. It costs about $300 per person for the week to accomplish this type of trip; this is only an average and not a requirement.

Donation Request

Those individuals joining our team who are not members of Immanuel UMC are asked to donate to support the trip expenses. This donation will help cover the cost of food, additional insurance and fuel if you are riding with the group.
  • There is a $16/night donation requested for the overnight (to support the local cost of the church you would be staying at)
  • $74/per person donation to support the material used for the rebuild effort
  • $25/day to cover meals
  • The required insurance is roughly $11/week per person

Checks for financial support can be made out and mailed to:

Bad Weather, Good Picnic

6/18/2024

The cold and rain on Sunday, June 9 could not keep us from enjoying a wonderful church picnic in our Fellowship Hall after worship.  The smiles, food, and games all added up to a to a fun time for all.

Youth Celebration Update

6/18/2024

We celebrated our youth on Sunday, June 9.  Our elementary young people listened to a message from Pastor Jack and were awarded with certificates for taking part in our Kidz Club program.  They were then dismissed to play games upstairs with Lorlie, our Faith Formation Director.

Later in the service, we heard a beautiful duet from Joey P. and our accompanist, Colin Keating.

For our meditation, we were able to hear from 3 of our graduates.  Alexa and Ben graduated from college and Joey is graduating from high school.  Joey was this year's recipient of the Gordon Williams Scholarship which Jerry Holbrook was able to present to him during the service.
