Immanuel UMC Missions
“Immanuel in mission together: we are making a difference.” The Missions Team at Immanuel is focused on supporting local, regional, national and international projects that help to improve the lives of people in need. Our central focus has been on the people in our community. This is one way that the members of Immanuel spread God’s love.
Our Missions Team is supported financially by regular donations from the congregation and by fundraisers organized by the team.
One of the fundraisers is the Annual Mini Golf Tournament. The 11th annual mini golf tournament was held on August 10th, 2019.
Our fundraisers not only raise money for the various mission projects but they bring us together in fellowship and friendship so whether it is playing a round of miniature golf or attending the craft fair or making door sprays, we do it “together”. As one of our former members said it best: “Together is the secret of our success.“
The team supports projects either by direct congregational involvement or by making a donation to the cause. Current projects include:
Angel Tree: The angels literally fly off the tree as members of the congregation fill the Christmas wishes for a child from PEACE, Inc. of a toy and clothing item.
Mitten Tree: Every branch of our tree is covered with new mittens, scarves, gloves and socks and gently used coats, snow pants and boots donated by members of our congregation that are given to our friends at the Onondaga Nation.
Shoe Ministry: Shoes are donated by members of the congregation and then given to “Ralph the Shoe Guy” to be refurbished and then given to the Rescue Mission.
Matthew 25:40: Bag lunches are made several times a year by the youth and given to the Rescue Mission for distribution to homeless people.
St. Joseph’s Food Pantry: During Lent a pick-up truck full of food and $760.48 was donated by the congregation. Additionally, food is donated throughout the year and our church’s mission budget includes a $100.00 donation to the pantry. This pantry serves those living in zip codes 13031, 13112 & 13164.
Samaritan Center: Dinner is prepared and served by members of Immanuel at the Center 1 – 2 times a year.
Shut-In Meals: On the 1st Sunday of the month a meal is prepared by “Chef Sam” and then delivered by our members to those members who are home-bound.
Brown Memorial: The church supports Brown Memorial is several ways 1) funds are given for children to attend summer church camp at Casawasco 2) back packs are given to children returning to school in September and 3) Sunday dinners are prepared 1 -2 times a year for their Sunday worship service.
St. Paul’s Food Pantry: Funds are given for their Thanksgiving Food baskets and hams are purchased for their Christmas baskets.
