Kidz Club is back! We kicked things off on September 13th with a shortened session of our Vacation Bible School series, and we have a full lineup of dates and activities ahead this fall. On Sunday, September 20, Kidz Club returns to its regular schedule during the 10am service.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Build — September 19
Kids of all ages are welcome to join in making no-sew blankets for Sleep in Heavenly Peace on bed build day.

Syracuse Area Crop Walk — October 4

• September 20 & 27: Kids will collect donations after the 10am service.
• October 4: We'll head to Liverpool with kids and their families, meeting around 12:00pm to walk together as a group.

Christmas Cards for Assisted Living — November/December
We'll likely use the first two Sundays of Advent again to make Christmas cards for assisted living facilities.

Living Nativity — December
Returning again this year — date to be confirmed.

We Need Your Input for Youth Group

Since Crop Walk falls on the first Sunday of October — our usual Youth Group day — we need your input on timing. Options include:

• Meeting a different Sunday (September 27 has been suggested)
• Gathering before or after the Crop Walk itself

Let Lorlie Wood, our Faith Formation Leader, know what works best for your family! You can contact her at [email protected]. Once that's settled, we'll also plan ahead for gatherings on November 1 and December 6.

We'd love to hear any ideas, questions, or concerns. It's shaping up to be an exciting Fall season, and we can't wait to spend it with all the kids!

Each workshop will be offered once in the morning and once in the afternoon–please sign up for which workshop you would like to attend. There is a limit of 12 people per workshop session.

Workshop Descriptions:

• The Effective SPPRC - led by Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Sherri Rood: This workshop will help participants understand the role of the Staff Pastor-Parish Relations Committee in the life of the church. It will also address how to create and utilize job descriptions for evaluations.

 

• Single Board Governance - led by Rev. Susan Ranous: How to explore and move toward a single board or simple governance model.

 

• The ABCs of Running a Good Meeting – led by Rev. Dr. Aaron Bouwens: Everyone has attended at least one poorly run meeting. How can we be good stewards of time and talent by planning and leading a good meeting? Come to this workshop to learn how to create and run a helpful and meaningful meeting.

 

• Messy Church - led by Rev. Bryant Clark: Messy church is a new way to be church. It welcomes and integrates people of every generation together through crafts, games, music, storytelling, prayer and more for the purpose of building Christian community. Come learn more about Messy Church and how you can start Messy Church in your congregation.

 

• The Many Expressions of Grief - led by Pastor Andrea Simmons: How do we name and help people grieve loss. Many congregations are experiencing grief personally and as congregations. They are grieving loss of family, friends, even churches. This workshop will help people name their grief and provide some resources on how to work through the stages of grief.​​

​Just a few glimpses of the creativity and energy that filled our VBS days as we near the end of another great year.

​​On Sunday, June 7, we joyfully welcomed five young people into membership through confirmation. Each student was paired with a mentor who walked alongside them throughout their confirmation journey. As part of their preparation, every confirmand and mentor team completed a mission outreach project that reflected service, compassion, and faith in action.
​

Kaylee B. and Carly K. with mentor Jeff G. held a can and bottle drive to benefit Rescue Love, an animal rescue center in Liverpool.

​Yvonne O. with mentor Lorlie W. dedicated their project to cleaning up roadside trash along Beef Street, caring for our local environment.

Kayla S. and mentor Shelley D.S. visited St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center on four occasions. Kayla shared her musical gifts on the violin, they visited residents individually, and they assisted with Bingo for a group of residents.

During the confirmation service, our confirmands served communion to the congregation. After worship, they celebrated by cutting and serving a Congratulations Confirmands cake.

On Sunday, May 17, Julie  read the following announcement:

"This past Tuesday night after our Administrative Council meeting here at church, I received an email from our District Superintendent, Sherri Rood asking for our SPRC Committee to meet with her on Thursday evening. At that meeting, we were informed that Pastor Jack will receive a new appointment on July 1st. We are part of an itinerant system and, from time to time, pastors are sent to a new appointment. We are grateful for the ten years we have had working with Pastor Jack here at Immanuel.
     
"A lot of emotions and questions come with this announcement. I know we all want to know where Pastor Jack is going, who will be the next pastor here at Immanuel and when we will find out. SPRC will remain in contact and conversation with the District Superintendent about “what’s next”. As soon as we have that information and can share it with you, we will. As the process moves forward, please keep the cabinet in your prayers as they discern the movement of the Holy Spirit throughout The Upper New York and Susquehanna Conferences and make all the necessary appointments."

Julie  made the following announcement in church on Sunday, May 24, 2026:

"It is my joy to share with you this morning that Bishop Hector Burgos-Nunez has appointed Pastor Benjamin Lalka as the new pastor of Immanuel. Pastor Ben will begin his new responsibilities on July 1st . This past Thursday, our SPRC committee had the pleasure of meeting Pastor Ben and spending some time getting to know him.

"Pastor Ben describes himself as a nerd who loves Jesus. He grew up loving action-packed stories found in comics to great tales that speak on human condition, like “Lord of the Rings”. It was through the greatest story, the Good News of Jesus, that his life would change. While attending Ferrum College in Virginia, Ben would discern a call toward pastoral ministry and receive his first appointment at Morrisville UMC in Bealeton, Virginia. It was there he met his beloved wife, Alyssa. In 2016 Ben and
Alyssa followed a call to come to New York, where every day, they strive to
follow Jesus.

"Please pray that appropriate housing is found for Pastor Ben, Alyssa, their two dogs and three cats. If anyone has information of a rental property that might work for them, please let me or any member of SPRC know. Over the next several weeks, please keep Pastor Jack, Pastor Ben and our entire Immanuel congregation in prayer as we go through this time of transition and change."
