Church & Community News & Events
Immanuel United Methodist Church has a lot going on. And, we are active in the community. Check back here to see the latest activities.
Our first dinner and a movie in October was such a hit, our Fellowship team hosted a second one on December 3, 2022. This was a potluck dinner with a fun Christmas viewing of "Scrooged." Stay tuned for more events like this! Our Fellowship team hosted two dinner and a movie nights. The first was Saturday, October 15, 2022. They watched the movie "The Case for Christ", a moving story about one man's journey from atheism to faith. The food and conversation were wonderful. Don’t miss our CHILI/CHOWDER COOK-OFF on Sunday, January 8, after the 10:00 service, in the Fellowship Hall. Bring a crockpot of your favorite chili or chowder, or just come to enjoy all the offerings and vote for your favorite. PRIZES will be awarded for first, second, and third place. Please sign up in the Narthex so we can set a place for you, and feel free to bring a friend to church, lunch and a fun time! Questions? Contact Barb Merckel
Get excited for Upper New York’s new bishop, Bishop Héctor Burgos who will begin on Jan. 1, 2023. He wants to be on a first-name basis with you, so he asks that you call him Bishop Héctor.
Bishop Héctor is thrilled with the strong missional foundation we have in Upper New York! He has five priorities when working among the clergy and laity of our Conference. Watch his video, giving you a warm welcome and outlining his priorities. On Sunday, December 4, we shared some Christmas cheer with residents at Brookdale Summerfield senior living. Our "elves" led the group in singing and shared the wonderful sound of ringing bells. A great time was had by all. Our Annual Election day Turkey dinner was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Many hands helped make a delicious dinner. We are grateful to our community for supporting us! “The Church of the Bells”

An elderly couple needed a ramp to get in and out of their home. The husband has mobility issues, and his wife recently fell and broke her pelvis and tail bone. They reached out to other organizations in the community, but were unable to find timely assistance. They heard we may be able to help, and so reached out. Our Mission Team had a brief meeting and performed a site survey. The couple chose a lift option to be installed in their garage. This was a very good option for upstate New York, due to the many months of ice and snow. An outdoor ramp would be very dangerous. The platform and lift was installed by our team, and the Knit n Stitch folks were instrumental in providing spiritual support with the sharing of Prayer Shawls! The retired couple live in Chittenango and the husband is a retired Methodist pastor still serving in the Mohawk Valley. In July, our Missions team donated 50 bed in a bags and 50 pillows to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Syracuse, NY. Find out more about this organization here.
Immanuel welcomed a mission team from Calvary UMC in Harrisburg, PA to stay at our church from July 25 thru 29. The mission team has been coming to Central New York for 15 years to work at the Onondaga Nation. Their primary work is to rehab homes in need of repairs. Jerry Sabattis, Trustee chair, received the following thank you message from John, point person of the PA mission team after their departure. Hellooo Jerry!
